Mounting Blocks
Mounting blocks are used when it impractical to place a penetrameter directly on the specimen being radiographed. Most codes specify that the penetrameter be placed on a block of equal thickness and material, adjacent to the specimen so that it shows clearly on the radiographic / radioscopic image. In conformity with known codes, IE-NDT Ltd supplied blocks allow at least 1/8in. clearance around the pentameter.(Please specify type of penetrameter with which the blocks will be used). Mounting blocks are available in the following thicknesses and materials: 1/16, 1/8, ¼, 3/8, ½, 5/8, ¾, 1, 1 ¼, 1 ½, 1 ¾, 2 and 2 ½ in. Steel, stainless steel, aluminium, magnesium, copper and brass.

Shims
Measuring ¾ x 2in., the shims are designed to be put under the American Penetrameters to compensate for the thickness of a backing ring or weld reinforcement. The material and thickness is marked on each shim.
Please note that these shims should not be used with MIL-STD-453/ ASTM E 1742 type penetrameters.
They are available in the following thicknesses and materials:
1/64, 1/32, 3/64,1/16, 1/8, ¼, 5/16, 3/8, 1/2.
5/8, 3/4, 1in.
Steel, stainless steel, aluminium, magnesium, brass, copper, monel, inconel, cupro-nickel and titanium. Other materials and thicknesses to special order.
